The Tohoku Region consists of six prefectures (Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi and Yamagata) in the north of Japan's largest island, Honshu.It is well known for its countryside, mountains, lakes, hot springs, high quality rice and rough winters.
